I went to see Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland today. I was ambivalent about the film. Tim Burton has been exceptionally hit and miss lately and his version of (my favourite Sondheim musical) Sweeney Todd was, I thought, an epic disaster. Alice In Wonderland was in 3D which did have its appeal however not enough to make me want to rush out and see this.
Then I was told this trailer was going to be before the film. In 3D! And from that point forward there was nothing going to stop me from seeing this film.
Doctor Who. New doctor. 3D. Fantastic!
So I went to the film in plenty of time and got my 3D glasses and sat waiting patiently for the trailer to begin. There was a 20 minutes of non 3D adverts firstly and the sign came up saying “Put on your 3D glasses”. The very first trailer was for Doctor Who.
And the 3D was broken!
There was multiple crossed images. There was some elements of 3D but for the most part the whole trailer was a garbled, mangled mess. Impossible to watch. 45 seconds later and all over. Didn’t see a thing.
I! Was! Furious!!!!!
I could not believe the Odeon cinema had managed to stuff it up so much. I was so angry! Then the next trailer came on and it was still completely unwatchable. I looked around at my fellow audience and marvelled at the British reserve to be able to cope with 3D adversity. Not me though. I was going to complain long and loud! They had ruined my Doctor Who Trailer and they were going to pay!
And then I realised I was wearing my sunglasses.
sigh
There is a word here for people such as myself. Sad but true.
Oh, and then the film was complete plop.
I did spend most of it laughing though.
Oh, my favourite plonker. It’s a hard life.
Thanks for the ‘heads up’ about Alice. I have read a lot of crap reviews so I dunno…..on the other hand, Time Out mag used to rave about films that were actually utter tosh, and slag off really good ones. I may yet go and see it. On another note -How much clotted cream have you eaten??
Shockingly only once
It was as delightful as i remembered and a future blog post but Ive been busy with other mad things. Still one of God’s greatest achievements though
Plonker?!?!?!? That has a “low” connotation here, low enough through one passes a stream of urine. If the glasses is true, it is just another Nigel moment! Then I am plotzing!
Piss! Myself! Laughing!!!!
yeah. Me too. heh
[…] They are insanely proud that Doctor Who and Torchwood are filmed here. The very kind lady who checked us in gave us a detailed explanation of where we could find the filming sites. Also the site where one of the Torchwood characters died has not become a shrine and people are leaving flowers in his fictional memory which made me laugh and laugh. I will definitely be getting pictures of that. Heres hoping this is in focus. […]
